Clothing Care & Information
Wax Cotton- We carry a wide range of different wax cotton fabrics- our generic care leaflet that comes with every garment, is repeated below. In all cases our waxed cotton comes from British Millerain, the oldest and most respected wax fabric manufacturer in the world. All the raw cotton we use is Egyptian long staple cotton that gives a superfine finish and immense strength. All garments respond well to an occasional rub across the seams with a solid wax re proofer.
Wet Wax, Traditional Wax, Heritage Wax- whatever you call this fabric it is the best known and oldest of the wax processes used today.
The cotton is coated on both sides to give a smooth shiny finish.
Tartan Wax- we do two patterns traditional Blackwatch tartan and Ecosse a modern hunting style tartan featuring browns and tans.
Tartan wax is an antiqued process that forces wax into the fibres using stainless steel rollers and then drying off the surface finish of the fabric. This fabric thus has a dry handle that as the garment is worn will allow the colours of the tartan to grow slightly stronger. Care for these garments is best managed using Spray Wax.
Vintage Wax- a new and exclusive process that creates the driest handle in a performance wax fabric. Using both traditional dark country and bold British colours we wash and re wax this fabric to give an appearance of a garment that is worn with greatly enhanced colour depth and a very dry handle. The wax is maintained in the fabric fibres to still give a waterproofed performance but the coats have an almost surreal dry finish- just like a well worn traditional wax jacket.
Care is best manged using a very, very light Spray Wax- these garments cannot be washed again.
Forza- a very modern stable waxed fabric that has great waterproofing performance but these garments can be washed.
As with all our waxed cotton we use an Egyptian long staple cotton as the base fabric and a modern stable (cannot be easily washed off) wax coating is applied. Washing must only be in machines with a gentle cycle and under no circumstances must Bio or Enzyme based detergents be used. Only genuine soap can be used.
Crack Wax- a modern fashion fabric that has a finish like wet leather. This fabric `cracks` to the touch like linen to give an instantly worn in feel.
Care is as traditional wet wax.
Rhino Wax- as the name suggests this is a fabric where little care is given or needed, yet this fabric will last a lifetime. The fabric is tough, but very forgiving as it moulds quickly to your unique shape. Performance is high and the garments respond best to an occasional rub down with a damp cloth to remove dirt.
Ultra Wax - 100% cotton base with stable polyurethane wax coating. The fabric is waterproof, but the seams are not sealed. Machine washable at low temperature in non-bio or no enzyme detergents.
